What do we take on our European Roadtrip

Everyone asks us what sort of navigational system do we have or how do we keep laptops charged while wild camping so often. There are so many more that people see in our videos and posts and want to now where to get them, so we will put them all in one place so it is easily referenced.

Some of these links are affiliate links.  This means you don’t pay more but we get a small benefit if you purchase through our links. More importantly, you find the right product that we are talking about!

We will update and add as we get more time. Ánd data. The joys of life on the road!

The List

Obviously there is more but the key items are as follows;

Tom Tom GO 620 with 6″screen, more importantly it has split screen when taking exits and shows multiple lanes on screen. This is imperative.  We have taken ours through over 13 countries has been Fantastic!  Lifetime maps.

Navman 630, which is now a Navman Mi Vue 730 Driving Camera.  This is also very important.  We use this in Australia and when we travel overseas, currently over 13 countries.  Some footage in our youtube videos is taken from it.

Samsung S7, now Samsung S9 for some footage and quick photos while on the road.  I have a love hate relationship with our samsung mobiles.  On one hand I love the picture quality but some apps we cant get (only available on apple) and it stores my photos in various locations especially if I load some to Instagram or Facebook.  Anyway always learning.

DJI Osmo+ in fairness this is a relatively new addition so still learning but the possibilities are endless here and with road footage (something we learned last years roadtrip) it is a MUST have for steady enjoyable viewing.

Belkin Battery Pack is essential, in the event phones die while you are in an amazing location, you instantly have a recharge.  Remember this is often your camera too.

As we wild camp a LOT this is considered a MUST have.

Portable solar charger and Portable Power Bank Charge on the go, out hiking, camping or walking. Solar Charger 25000mAh.  4 Solar panels, fast charge external battery pack with dual 2.1A output USB compatible with smart phones, tablets, Waterproof.

Samsung Tablet 9.6″for Lonely Planet Guides and Educational Resources/Worksheets.  We take this with us and have all the PDF downloadable guides stored on our tablet and highlighted, marked as shown in our youtube video Planning a European Roadtrip Part I.

Quechua Portable solar pressure shower.  We have tried a lot of solar showers of the years and this is fantastic.  You can buy it at any Decathlon store and it is well worth the investment.

Pure Sine Wave Inverter.  3000W This charges our laptops, devices, phones and anything else that has a power cord or usb.  When you are on the road it can be difficult to keep everything charged.  Because we spend so much time on the road it is fortunate that we have this system set up to keep everything charged. It is VERY important that you use a PURE sine wave.

Laptop USB charger

This is unbelievable but I would probably recommend you do not use the laptop while charging.  This is a lifesaver for us with blogging, work and schooling power requirements while we fulltime travel it is a MUST HAVE accessory for fulltime on the road.

Multi point USB chargers. Now to be fair we have had dramas with the ones we have bought, basically because they were cheap crap but they are so handy I will not give up looking for one that stays as good as it begins when you buy it. Especially while in airports or powered sites you can get everything charged quickly.

Mobicool Compressor car fridge/waeco/Dometic.

This has been a major asset.  mainly because anyone buying a campervan or motorhome / older vehicle knows the fridge is going to be shit.  We have wned multiple campervans and all of the fridges have been stuffed.  So we did not waste anytime when we bought Betsy in 2017 in trying to seek a waeco/dometic car fridge as they are known in Australia but go by the brand Mobicool in Europe, still dometic.  It was a game changer, COLD beer!! When it was over 40 degrees in Italy last year we were soooo grateful.  It also means we can keep food for more days while wild camping and fresh fruit (a favourite). It MUST have a compressor. Could not find the model we bought but as long as you have a compressor and a cigarette lighter plug, not only will you save a fortune in gas you will have COLD beer!

Multi Cigarette Lighter Sockets

There is always something to charge and best done while driving.  As we have a driving camera and tom tom, this is essential, we actually have another cigarette lighter too.  Includes USB charge points are very important we would be lost without them.  Just keep in mind that there is only so much power that can come out of one cigarette lighter point.  Therefore you are not going to be able to run a fridge and GPS on the same unit.

External Microphone

This is great for clear audio if you are trying to film, particularly out of the car window.  So much of my footage was unusable from the first roadtrip due to wind and background noise. BIG difference, well worth it.
When blogging or youtubing good sound quality is important but also needs to be compact when travelling (I then drop into my selfie stick drawstring bag).

Scrubba Washbag.

Washing on the road can be expensive.  In Europe the cheapest we found was 3.5 Euro and the average is 4 Euro a load.  We bought a Scrubba washbag with us and provided there is sunshine it is perfect for roadtripping!  It takes up minimal room (especially rolled) uses minimal water (we only do it when staying where there is water anyway).  Great little workout for the legs too! Buy yours here.

Travel Adapter

This is so you can charge using your inverter while driving. Travel Adapter multi country.

Of course as well as when you are plugged in at caravan parks ect.

We also have a power board for when in caravan parks and additional adapter for our home country.

Kitchen

It may seem mundane listing everything we have in a kitchen but people ask us what we have all the time.

Plates and Bowls, two mugs, two glasses, 3 plastic tumblers, cutlery, large knife, small knife, peeler (my beloved Culinare peeler as we eat a lot of veggies), masher, tongs, egg flipper

Steamer and Saucepan set

One small one large teflon frypans

Paper Towel, cleaning wipes, dishwashing liquid, washing powder, green scourer, tea towel
