Storing laptops in a caravan or motorhome securely when travelling, is very important.
Laptops and tablets and all their associated extras, charging cables, hard drives, power cords, are all part of every day life on the road now.
Between, Brett, Miss B and myself, we have quite the collection of electronics for enjoyment, work & schooling on the road.
Storage solution for laptops
A storage solution was a MUST.
This solution not only prevents damage from movement/shaking due to road travel but also everything contained, tidy and secure.
Thankful hubby is handy with his hands
What I mean by that, he is very clever with constructing, repairing and coming up with ideas to fix issues that arise. (That’s exactly what you thought I meant, wasn’t it?!)
Many times since hitting the road we have been grateful for this laptop storage unit. He built it to store all our laptops, tablets, hard drives, cables – you name it, all fits in there!
He moved the existing shelf up, added another shelf higher too and measured three times cut once (you know the rule!!)
Using pine tongue and groove timber which is pretty much available everywhere, he built me this gem.
Other benefits of finding storage ideas for laptops
When measuring (three times and cutting once, lol) we made sure there was enough room left beside the uni. Why? For the nespresso coffee machine of course! Post coming soon on that.
All the USB cables and power cords that are individually labelled, with just a name and sticky tape looped around the cord.
Cords are stored in flight bags and pencil cases to keep them all contained. We use velcro straps available at Officeworks to keep them tidy, so they do not become entangled.
Bonus Laptop tips
If you are going to be on the road fulltime, or for an extended period and going to be relying on the laptop for school and work, it is a VERY good idea to get the hard drive updated to a solid state hard drive.
Charging laptops while you travel
When you are in a caravan park or connected to 240V, there is no difference to charging than if you were home.
If you have lithium batteries and inverter that same will apply. More on that later.
But when you are on the move, don’t have lithium batteries, generator and inverter, you will need a charging device if you work remotely or school on the road.
For this situation we have a in-car 90W universal laptop charger, it comes supplied with 8 tips that cover over 95% of all Laptops & Notebooks on the market.
We bought it from Battery world in Bunbury. I believe, they don’t sell them anymore. But, they are available from PSA parts online – you have to order.
