Roadtrip round England Tintagel to Wales

Roadtripping England

From the South of England to Wales this week, saw us meeting up with multiple worldschoolers which is heaps of fun!  The roadtrip is coming to a close soon but so many exciting things are afoot on arrival back in Australia it doesn’t feel like an end.

This week was all in England, so what did we get up to…

September 4

Met the lovely Aussie family Home Free Radical Family who are fulltimers too!  Visited a park and all the kids played for hours while the parents chatted.  Always great to hear an Aussie accent after so many months away LOL.

Headed up to Tintagel, pronounced Tint-Agel to check out the castle or ruins as the case may be.  What a gorgeous spot and included in our English Heritage membership.  It is apparently where King Arthur was conceived.

There is a LOT of steps, you will be rewarded with stunning views at the top.  Not sure I

Tintagel

see the value without the English Heritage pass.

Merlins Cave you can get into (depending on tides) with or without a ticket.

We stayed in the Caravan Park, which ended up be a great idea as we ran out of gas and could sort it straight away.  It is getting colder now and thought should be given to timing on showers and hair washing.  Brrrrr.

September 5

Bath

Arriving in Bath we had a walk around the city, some lovely old buildings, Brett got a haircut (finally, long overdue!!).  Found a lovely whiskey shop.

Limited parking, not a great deal to see and do, so we moved on.

Drove up Hackmen Hill in the Marlborough Downs – lovely wild camp.

September 6

Lazy start to the day so I could get some work done, Miss B get ahead of her school work as we knew we were visiting friends.

Gorgeous views from our wild camp, Brett got creative with a grolsch bottle swing top, making S clips to hold our solar blanket up.

We then headed to our friends house who we had met a couple of time in Perth, Western Australia.  Was lovely to see them and chatted for hours. Miss B cooked us dinner of Pork Ragu with Tagliatelle was so yum!

Great night.

September 7

Headed to Wales to our friends Wheelers on the Bus and where is the best place to meet but at a Welsh pub!  Such beautiful landscape, green grass fields and very hilly.

Following a few drinks we made our way back to their place for a few more drinkies. OK, in fairness it was a few more than a few but a great night had by all!

September 8

It was a wet day in Wales today so we all were happy to stay snuggled in the yurt with the fire on and chatting.  Baked Camembert with homemade blackberry and apple jam, some more red wine and a lesson in crochet.

Sara is amazing at Crochet and happily taught me, which resulted in a new smood or scarf, what a great momento of our time together.

The kids played perfectly, no arguing, LOTS of laughing and entertained themselves with hide n seek for hours, irrespective there is only minimal places to hide in a yurt.

We talked a lot about mushrooms! Many varieties can be found in the surrounding hills and it is very important to be able to tell the good guys from the bad guys!

Relaxed day and night was fabulous, gorgeous Blackberry and Apple crumble for dessert finished off the day perfectly – thanks Sara, your amazing!!

September 9

Sleep in, listening to the rain on the roof, said our goodbyes, until next time. Headed south, originally on our way to Cardiff.  After driving for a while we were over the rain and changed our plans to head back to home base early.  We have lots of things to do and can’t wait to see my bestie too.

A big day of driving as we made our way back to our wild camp and Hackmen Hill again.  This time it was very busy, we were lucky to get a spot!

September 10

Our neighbour on awakening was a character or eccentric might be a better explanation. Questioning Miss B on the universe, where we came from and more.

He is a fulltime traveller too and teaches the Hang Drum or Handpan which we were introduced to in Amsterdam earlier this year.  He gave her a lesson and all of us a go.  It was fantastic as we love the instrument and we would like to look at getting one at some point.

Another long drive and arrived at home base – celebration time.  Delayed birthday cake for Miss B as she wanted to celebrate it with Joylie.  Nothing like spreading out the celebrations!!

Until next week…

What did we take

If you are interested in what we took, electronics, kitchen and all things we needed for the duration of our roadtrip click here. (we are slowly adding each week as we have data/time)

Having done a three and half month roadtrip in South Europe in 2017 and Northern Europe Roadtrip in 2018 we were pretty confident in what we would need’this time. Also, what worked and what we would not bother taking again.
