Hiking Monadnocks to Nerang Hut – Bibbulmun Track

Day 6 of our Bibbulmun Track Adventure – Monadnocks to Nerang Hut

Another double hut day with 27kms to hike Monadnocks to Nerang Hut on the Bibbulmun Track.

Basically we are ensuring our 10 days food we are carrying, covers us from Kalamunda to Dwellingup where we will restock at the IGA.

Waking up at Monadnocks hut this morning we were a little chilly, tips of the fingers got that tingle, letting you know your alive!

When we got in last night we were very wet, so our clothes are hanging off our packs today to dry while we set of for Nerang Hut via Mt Cooke.  Very fortunate for us, it is glorious weather!

Knowing what lies ahead

Setting out today we are well aware today is the day of hills/mountains, in our very near future that require us to go over them!

To say we felt it today is an understatement.  Noting this day as the one that hurt the most.

Forgot to mention yesterday we saw our first snake.

As Brett takes the lead to ensure a lookout for snakes, by the time Miss B and I got there we could see it disappear into the bush happily.

Word of the day

If your checking out our youtube video of day 6, todays word of the day is magic.  The scenery, not our muscles!!  LOL.

Mount Cuthbert, Mount Vincent and Mount Cooke I respect you, you may be beautiful, but I don’t have to love you right now!

The scenery is so beautiful and it was such a great feeling reaching the top of Mt Cooke. Took a lovely photo (right) of Brett with Miss B – love these moments.

Boy, were we happy to reach Mt Cooke hut.

Our feet hurt, were hot and we again took off our hiking boots to let them cool down a bit.

This was a big day and Miss B and mum had to dig a little deeper to hit the track again and onto Nerang Hut.

Lunch of John West kidney beans and tuna on vita weats is a fantastic lunch and we always look forward to eat it.  We do not feel hungry again till dinner and with our family – that is saying something!

Enjoying the bush

Even when your hurting the bush is so gorgeous that it just keeps you going.

Your mind wanders and your breathing is calm and freeing, you can almost feel the creative part of your brain opening like a flower.

This is the benefit of a through hike, time to breathe, all lost in our own thoughts and nestled amongst mother nature.

So happy to reach Nerang Hut

So this is the understatement of the century!  Also proud that we did it, knowing this was our toughest day for Miss B and I.

We unpacked, had the FAB shower (face underarm and bottom with nappy wipes) and started soaking dinner, Chicken Korma.  Note to self next time shred chicken when dehydrating but edible.

We will sleep well tonight there is no doubt but Monadnocks to Nerang Hut on Bibbulmun Track is done.

Extra Information you may want to know

The Bibbulmun Track is one of the world’s great long distance walk trails.  The track stretches a mere (?) 1000km from Kalamunda in the Perth Hills, to Albany on the south coast of Western Australia.

We left on our hike from Kalamunda (Northern Terminus) on the 13th March 2020.

There was lots of preparation, planning and packing and dehydrating and excitement in the lead up to our hike!

This REALLY made the hike more enjoyable and all future hikes we will ensure more hydrating of meals is done in advance and sent ahead.
