Hiking Swamp Oak to Murray Hut

Swamp Oak hiking with kids

what can i see between swamp oak and murray hutDay 12 of our Bibbulmun Track adventure took us from Swamp Oak to Murray Hut a total of 19.2km

We started early today.

5am we got up, on Miss B’s enthusiasm to hit the track and now our packup and pack down is done in record time.

By hitting the track at this time we can conserve water better, due to not hiking and sweating in the heat of the day.

Wildlife Swamp Oak to Murray Hut

Not the wildlife we want to see, but Brett caught sight of two feral cats with big bushy tails in the bush.  This can be detrimental to birds and other ground dwelling fauna in the bush.

You would think that we would see quite a lot of wildlife while on the track.  But most of the time you are concentrating so hard on where you are walking that you don’t get a chance to check what is lurking in the bush watching the strange parade of hikers stomp through their home.

Ups and Downs

The track today had a lot of ups and a lot of downs, then a few more ups and a few more downs.  We were very thankful we started early and got that part out of the way not in the heat of the day.

Beautiful bush to enjoy along the way.

Family Hiking is the best

Happy kids hiking

Hiking is enjoyable in so many different ways for all sorts of reasons.

My absolute favourite is when we hike as a family.

Maybe, it is because we all love it so much and it shows.

There is nothing better than watching your kids experience nature and all the beauty it holds.

Overgrown tack conditions

Coming into Murray Hut there was quite a lot of overgrown vegetation.

Keep in mind when choosing your hiking attire, especially if you are hiking out of hiking season and when there has been lots of rain you may have to navigate through overgrown bush along the track.

Murray Hut on the Bibbulmun Track

Arriving at Murray Hut we were disappointed to find the worst water we had come acrossBibbulmun Track Murray Hut to date.  We have since been told that this is common so be prepared.

We even used our lifestraw and it was still unbearable.  There were fellow hikers staying this night and it was nice to talk and share hiking stories and meet some lovely young gentlemen who decided to head out for a night on the track.

Better still being fit young men, they brought a six pack on their hike and were happy to share one – wahoo! Thanks boys you have no idea what a great treat this was!
