Hiking Dwellingup to Swamp Oak Bibbulmun Track

hiking in dwellingup

Day 11 of our Bibbulmun Track adventure took us from Dwellingup to Swamp Oak hut.  This is a great starter hike for families as it is only 13kms.  A great way to check out the bibbulmun track and also get them used to carrying a pack.

Breakfast at The Blue Wren

Breakfast in DwellingupYou will have heard other hikers talk about the Blue Wren Cafe I am sure, so it was a no brainer breakfast would be there!

Those fellow through hikers will know the excitement of the offerBlue Wren Cafe Dwellingup Coffee of a hot breakfast and coffee at the beginning of a days hiking.

So, a bacon & egg sandwich later and coffee we were feeling very special and ready to hit the Bibbulmun Track.

The best bit about having breakfast at Blue Wren Cafe it is actually on the track, so no extra kilometres out of the way and a great way to start the day!

Hiking in Dwellingup

The bush in this area is beautiful and terrain manageable for young hikers, we made quick work of the 13kms and really enjoyed ourselves, in high spirits with full bellies and knowing it was a quick one, helps a lot.

Swamp Oak Hut

Arriving at Swamp Oak hut still with lots of energy, we read the Bibbulmun Track journal and saw there were a number of people who took the 950m walk down to the swimming hole neraby.

We located it on our Maps me app and set out on promises of beautiful scenery, possible swim and knocking out an hour or two from our short day hiking.

It was a lovely spot and although too cold for a swim we really enjoyed the animals and scenery.

Arriving back at Swamp Oak hut we sorted dinner, with no more dehydrated meals left we were on  whatever we could get at the General Store/IGA in Dwellingup. Tonight was like a Risotto precooked rice packet for 4 and 3 Roast Chicken gourmet cup a soups.  Actually in fairness, it was okay.  We are just used to be spoilt, but it was a great tip from Michelle at Walking two by two, thanks Michelle!

Shout Out IGA Dwellingup

A huge shout out to Wendy at the IGA in Dwellingup too. She was nice enough to boil our carton of eggs we purchased so we can have eggs for breakfast a few mornings!

Sooo grateful as breakfast is our least favourite meal of the day – if you have any great tips please let me know below!
